SicNme Products 2016 Outlaw Retro Monster Truck Rules & Class Information
This class is in the spirit of the golden days of “Stage 2″ monster trucking as seen on the TNT or USHRA racing circuit of the late 80’s. This is the period where the lumbering early monsters (i.e. Stage 1) gave way to lighter, more powerful trucks with racing as the main purpose. The basis for the vehicles were modified stock pickups or heavy duty boxed frames. Some crazy designs also sprang up (tank trucks or other such oddities). Suspensions were still relatively stiff and as such it made for wild, unpredictable events. The idea is to recreate this era with r/c.
These rules were decided and voted on by the competition committee and are good for the 2017 Calendar Year.
Body: Classically styled bodies only. Does not have to be replica but must be period appropriate. Since this rule is going into effect for 2016 and several vehicles currently run modern pickup bodies, all trucks that have competed in TK competition as of Jan 3rd, 2016 event will have their bodies, if illegal under these new rules, grandfathered in. After this date all new trucks/bodies MUST be in compliance.
General/Axles: All vehicles must have a minimum of 2 solid axles. Motor on Axle (Clodbuster) gearboxes are legal. Shaft driven trucks are legal. Tank trucks are legal. Due to the wide array of potential vehicles, if there is any question of legality, please ask if it “fits the spirit of the class”.
Tires: Chevron tread, fully cleated (no cut tires) Clodbuster sized or bigger. JConcepts Firestorm tires and RC4WD B&H are legal. Destroyers, Rumbles, Renegades, Bajas prohibited. Dual Tractors legal. Treads legal on tank trucks. No shaved tires are allowed. Certain exceptions may be in made in attempt to recreate a certain vehicle at discretion of event director.
Wheels: Any scale appearing monster truck wheel is legal as long as it does not put truck over max width.
Chassis: Any chassis fitting in the spirit of the class (i.e. no tube frames) are legal. May be any material except Carbon Fiber. sicNme Products, Crawford Performance Engineering, and Grund Chassis all sell very nice pieces.
Wheelbase: No limit.
Width: 15.4″ max width on Clods. This is half inch over stock 14.9″. JConcepts Tribute Wheels must be run with 11mm or 17mm adapter.
Motors: One brushed 27t, closed end-bell, non adjustable motor allowed per drive axle. Holmes Hobbies Sport, Tamiya Silver Can, Axial Racing, & HPI are all legal 27T motors. May run higher turn but must be non adjustable.
Battery: One 2S Lipo with 100c advertised discharge rate limit.
Steering: May be 2 or 4WS (or more than than if 6×6 or above)
Shocks: No maximum number or length. May be oil filled or friction.
Suspension: No 4 link setups, with the exception of a Tamiya Juggernaut with leaf springs. Starting in June 2017, sway bars, sway brackets or sway braces (of any kind) will be illegal.
Gearing for Clodbusters: Stock 13t pinion using stock motor mount.
Gearing for Shaft Trucks or Tanks: Must be similar in speed to Clodbuster with stock 27T, closed can motors. Due to the wide variety of possible build combinations, the Competition Director will make the final call. Every effort will be made to accommodate a specific vehicle within reason.
Minimum Vehicle Weight: Vehicle must be weighed in competition trim w/ battery and meet 9 lbs minimum.
